I have come to regard this area of organ playing as the most interesting , and almost beguiling.
I never miss an opportunity to chase down an improvised performance, whether UTube clip or on CD. I now have almost everything available on the Internet .
I am yet to contact the Amis de Marcel Dupre , but I’ve heard there are bonuses such as access to the unreleased recordings , particularly the last ones which belie the almost crippled arthritic fingers. For a very short time , a few of these were posted on UTUBE, then withdrawn . Luckily I saw them and have never forgotten the effect they had .
I have only now just discovered this site , and how glad I am . Looking forward to exploring it and THANK YOU !
If you read French, I recommend the autobiography “Marcel Dupre raconte…” in which the great man tells his own life story and talks about his first experience of the organ as an instrument, his first lessons, etc. He wrote it at age 80. Very moving.
Many of the ideas here can be applied at the piano. Some of the specifics requiring use of the feet will not work, but ideas for musical form, harmonic language, and ways to practice should work just as well at the piano.
